CURA solidified its leadership in Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) at the 21st Internal Audit Annual Seminar in Kenya, held from May 6-10, 2024, at the Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort in Mombasa. Themed “New Horizons: Securing the Future,” the event attracted professionals eager to understand and integrate new technologies in internal auditing. The seminar aimed to prepare participants to embrace new skills, explore emerging technologies, and effectively respond to shifting business and risk landscapes.
As a proud event sponsor, we led discussions on critical industry advancements. We focused on re-inventing the profession in the age of digital disruption, and how auditors can adapt amidst technological advancements.
Our discussions highlighted the importance of cultivating a risk-aware culture and managing organisational culture over time, emphasising proactive risk management approaches within organisations. The seminar also underscored the significance of global internal audit standards in driving excellence in the profession and integrated assurance practices for long-term organisational sustainability.
Our many speakers delved into the role of emotional intelligence in professional growth and effective leadership, while also examining the challenges and opportunities for leaders in dynamic environments. The importance of environmental social governance (ESG) in modern governance frameworks was a key focus, along with insights into post-retirement financial planning for auditors. The evolving expectations of the board in governance practices were also discussed, alongside strategies for managing mental health risks within the workplace.
Further topics included the pivotal role of Chief Audit Executives (CAEs) in organisational outcomes, the strategic importance of talent management in achieving organisational goals, and navigating complex geopolitical and economic landscapes. Furthmore, we also discussed agile leadership approaches for organisational transformation, current trends and best practices in data privacy and analytics, and the feasibility of achieving a faultless audit.
